It's a great book. Seems there is no English translation! What a shame. I read an excellent translation into Polish, there is also a French translation. It's a must for those intellectually anxious :)

What a shame Larsson died after finishing this trilogy. I read it in French. Notwithstanding any remarks on quality of translations, the French translation is great, I liked the style, it isn't going to go down on any classic literature book list, but the story is mesmerising. Amongst my acquaintance, a sociologist, a judge and a psychiatrist loved it too (don't know any journalists or secret service agents unfortunately). I read the trilogy in 3 weeks with a very hectic schedule and finished the last pages at 4 this morning. I can't usually afford to stop up reading like that but this story is impossible to put down. I loved the Lisbeth salander character but all the characters are interesting. The general ambiance is of an easy going attitude to sexual freedom, respect for the individual's privacy and right to decide how they live their life so long as its not detrimental to others (apart from a little heartache from time to time), and a great thriller in terms of unravelling what exactly is going on. The first volume can be read alone but the second and third need to be read as a continuity. Journalism, good and bad, the security services, good and bad, villains galore. Its an intrigue around the law, psychiatry, the police and the secret services and miscarriage of justice. Its a great read set in Sweden which many of us don't know. The female characters are strong and rather surprising. The men rather more stereotypical. I had to keep reminding myself the author is male. Enjoy.
