I am sure all of the reviews here are correct when it comes to the Jane Austen's prose. Unfortunately these volumes are only 3/4 scale and after getting through the first couple of pages of the of Northanger Abbey the thought of reading the entire volume made me return them. I have since bought the books individually. As someone who reads a lot I am not a fan of oversized hardbacks or 'airport volumes' however the size of the font used in these books is simply too small. Eagle-eyed readers only.

I bought this set for my daughter - she absolutely loves them. The size of the books are perfect for fitting in bags, the set itself is lovely and would recommend them. A great gift!

These books really are a beautiful version of the works of Jane Austen. However, just be careful once they arrive to inspect their condition. My daughter desperately wanted these for her 21st Birthday as a special keepsake, so we were happy to order them for her. However, they arrive totally sealed in plastic, and I didn't want to spoil the presentation of the product, so left them as they were and gift wrapped them as they came. Imagine our dismay, when, as my daughter unwrapped the books, we found that 2 of them were not in tiptop condition. The copy of Emma had a scrape off the gold which really showed, and the copy of Pride and Prejudice had pages which had somehow in the production, been folded over and sewn into the spine, rendering those pages impossible to read without tearing the pages of our "collector's item". A call to Amazon was very helpful, and before we managed to get around to posting back our spoilt books, a new set arrived. This set had one book which had excessively creased pages, which had been uncreased and flattened out, but the crease marks still showed. Fortunately it was a different book, so between the 2 sets that we now had at the same time, we picked over them all and managed to get a perfect set. We posted back a set which included 3 damaged books. I'm glad to report that our postage for sending back the faulty ones was refunded to us and that my daughter is now delighted with her beautiful Jane Austen books.
Books for Bedtime April 4, 2010

I had never read any Jane Austen before, thinking she would be heavy going and I do like my bedtime reading to not provoke deep thought! This is a lovely set, each book exactly the right size for reading in bed and the set in its box is exactly right for my night stand. I like the illustrations too. Altogether just what I wanted.

The size is perfect, the illustrations are wonderful and I will definitely treat myself to
some of the other favourite classics of this edition as well.
