4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but flawed... Still worth reading!   July 22, 2010
Miss Ellamae Lepper
This is not really the kind of book I usually read, but I my friend was reading it and the cover looked so attractive I bought a copy for myself (I know... that old saying...). The first time I read it I completely loved it and thought it was lovely, even if it reminded me just a bit too much of Twilight... But when my copy of "Linger", the sequel, was on its way, I reread it and found I could see its faults.
The romance between Sam and Grace is really enjoyable to read - my favourite scene is the one where they go to the sweet shop - but doesn't quite ring true. They were in love, but they'd never actually spoken to each other? I feel this doesn't happen in real life. Ever.
Also, the book, although nice escapism, isn't really very imaginative or original. I didn't feel it covered any new ground for me. It doesn't have anything challenging or moralistic in it, and the characters are divided in a very black and white way: perfect or bad.
Having said that, however, their relationship is very sweet and charming, and written well; Stiefvater conjures up a very believable world that sucks you in and lets you share their experiences and emotions. I really loved the setting and I thought that all the characters had been thought through and came across very clearly. The story was also really beautiful with a very sad second section and moments of really nice happiness. It's not a serious or challenging book but if you like romance/werewolf themes (very popular) it's definitely much better written than a lot of books out there: I personally preferred it to Twilight and would still recommend it to somebody looking for a light, easy read, although not if you prefer pacier novels - the plot is designed to develop slowly, which I enjoyed, but I know many people would find it boring and become impatient.

5 out of 5 stars Shiver review   July 13, 2010
Sophie Howarth (UK)
I really Enjoyed this book and like the other that have wrote reviews,I too couldn't put this book down. From the Moment i opened the first page, I loved it. I love the main charcters Sam & Grace Romance together an that love was the stengnth, kept them fighting. I heard that the movie writes have been brought an this is about to become a movie. I can't wait, I think if they stay true to the book when making the movie an choice charcter wisley this book could make a major motion picture like Twilight. For you twilight fans, I'm a massive Twilight Saga fan myself have the books and movies and watched them in cinemas. So i'm not putting twilight saga down cause i love it TOO. But i do personal think this movie could do as well as twilight saga all maybe even better. I abosoutly loved it would reconmend all twilight fans, TO READ AN THEN watch it its not like twilight but its as amazing as twilight and reconmend anyone else that enjoys books an good romance stORy then this is for you

5 out of 5 stars Could'nt put this book down.   July 12, 2010
Ms. D. Thomson
Shiver, is about a girl called grace who is attacked by a pack of wolfs when she was a little girl, she then becomes obsessed with these wolfs and watches them in the forest behind her house, she feels as if she knows one in particular as she reckognises his eyes as if shes met him before. Grace then ends up falling in love with a boy called sam and throughout the book learns sams deeps secrets and as time goes by with more pressure and challenges they struggle to stay together.
This book was so breath taking it keep me wanting to read on to the end to find out what happens a really good read full of love and mystery.

5 out of 5 stars Would beat Twilight anyday!   July 11, 2010
werewolf_addict
I found this book in a local supermarket and only got it because it was one special offer. What a bargain! Quite similar to the Twilight series the book is about love, romance and werewolves with a bit of doom and gloom thrown in. It is an easy read so those of you with a more developed reading agenda would devour this in a second as did I however I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS BOOK! The storyline is brilliant, not tOo dramatic but at the same time you're sitting there screaming at some parts, crying at others and fixated at the rest. Definately a book for the shelf. Buy, buy, BUY!

5 out of 5 stars I Cried!   July 2, 2010
Heather
I actualy had to stop to wipe the tears from my eyes so that I could finish this heart wrenching story. I found myself eager to finish the final page but longing for the story to never end! I would recomend this book to anyone who yearns for a touch of love and romance! Grace and Sam's struggle to stay together against the cold that thretens to separate them forever is extreemly moving and I would wager that it will have even the most cynical soul weeping at times and palpatating at others!

I would recomend this book to everyone! If you are in any doubt...don't bother...Just buy it, read it, and fall in love!

I cant wait to get hold of Linger and am counting the days until it arives on my doorstep! I want to curl up with Sam and Grace again!

Read it...You won't be sorry!
