Is Belle a Fraud? May 21, 2010 KEN SCOTT author (Spain) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Is Belle a fraud?
It was at around about a hundred pages into `The Intimate Diaries of a London Call Girl,' that the alarm bells started to ring. I'm a ghostwriter by profession and so would like to stake an early claim that I know what I'm talking about. At about 120 pages I concluded that the book is definitely ghostwritten and in my opinion written by a man... Shock horror! Yes, in my humble opinion Belle is a fraud. To help write a good memoir you need to get into the head of the subject and it's not always easy. I have recently written two memoirs on celebrity females, you need to get into their heads, into their mindset and if the book is to come across as a true and interesting account, they need to write the book! The ghostwriter should only be there to put the words right, to structure the book and to coax and beg the author to do the writing.
All of my books are written in this way, I tell the subject "this is your book not mine." If a subject isn't willing to give me 500 words on a certain subject by a certain date then I walk away. The books I help with are 80-90% the authors work and that's why they get read and hopefully respected. I can tell when a book is not a celebrity's book within a few pages. Don't insult me by asking me to read Wayne Rooney's bio or tell me Katie Price can write fiction. My two most recent efforts, Alicia Douvall and Crissy Rock (Currently with my agent Andrew Lownie.) required face to face interviews, Skype calls long into the night and hundreds of thousands of words written by the author. Alicia and Crissy are both dyslexic, spelling mattered not, they are both very good writers.
Belle's book is readable, very explicit of course, but some things just didn't add up. The descriptions (and there are many) of the various acts she performed on and with her clients are written in the style of a porno scribbler writing a script for a low quality porn flick filmed in Dorking for the titillation of men. To me, that's what gave it away and I'm amazed that so many millions of people have actually fallen for it. It's too detailed, too explicit for a memoir and oh so lacking in the emotional issues attached to opening your legs on a regular basis to let a total stranger with bad breath pound away at you. It didn't work, it just didn't.
I'm working with a married escort couple at the moment. They are real and honest they want to put their story in print too. When it's finished it will be more readable, more emotional and a lot better than Belle's.
It will be their book not mine, their words, their stories and tales. Being generous and assuming `The Intimate Diaries of a London Call Girl, was written with some input from a real London call girl I calculate that 40% of the words in that book come from a girls lips, the rest... undoubtedly a man. However... just the opinion of a humble ghost-writer.

Okish May 7, 2010 Emily Smith I found this product not to be what i expected. I purchased after enjoying the tv series and was dissapointeed. It seems it concentrates more on her life instead of her life as a call girl, i found myself getting confused by all her nicknames
Nothing much new if you've read the blog April 22, 2010 D. Cooper (UK) Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed (most of) the book, but having recently read the blog archives, I didn't read much in the book that was new. If you've read the blog, then personally I don't think it's worth the extra money, if you've only watched the show, then you might enjoy it, but as earlier reviewers have said, some of it is a bit more 'hardcore' than what you saw Billie Piper doing on TV.
Disappointing after watching the TV series April 4, 2010 Nik I was expecting the book to be better than the TV series but was very disappointed. Belle comes across as very immature and the book, although it is supposed to be diary entries, was not at all well written. Nothing much happens and you're left thinking 'is that it?'
Boring! March 29, 2010 Mrs. Wl Ingham (UK) Starts off OK but becomes very boring quite quickly.
Did anyone really buy this to read about her relationships with her friends?
I can't imagine what all the fuss was about.
