Fantastic Book! September 8, 2010 James Richardson What a fabulous find! I brought this book for my partner who is a whizz in the kitchen anyway, but thought that this might offer some additional inspiration, or at the very least make a decent coffee table book!
People are often fascinated in the type and cheer quantity of the most obscure food pairings which can take place!
Buy this book if you're fascinated in food, have a huge foodie in your family or simply want a talking point at drinks parties!
Do us a flavour mate September 7, 2010 O'Cinneide This book was so well reviewed that I just had to have it...it seemed such a good idea.
There are without doubt some brilliant blendings which we would never have imagined but an awful lot of these are also, in Basil Fawlty's words "the bleedin' obvious".On the whole though it is a worthwhile investment and an entertaining read.
Love the style of this book August 29, 2010 Jenny 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is great. It's much more subjective and personal than I expected it to be from the reviews. Rather than getting repetitive with the descriptions of the flavour combinations, she jumps between roughed-out recipes, historical stories, entertaining metaphors and funny personal anecdotes. It's amazing to see how many of the "surely not!" combinations are used in mainstay dishes around the world, and is great for inspiring experimentation, as it seems that just about anything is possible!
Gorgeous book August 24, 2010 23ruthie 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This seems like such an obvious thing to do - create a reference of flavour combinations - that I cant believe no-one's ever done it before. Maybe they have, but this would be hard to beat. Very engagingly written, she's warm and funny about her subject as well as reassuringly nerdy. I would have bought this just because it's a lovely lovely book, even if it didn't also include some great recipes. Beautiful AND useful.
OK August 23, 2010 totalkitchen 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is an OK good read, but for a reference book on what ingredients go with what the book Culinary Artistry by Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page is much much better. I would recommend buying Culinary Artistry before this book for its informationon not just ingredients but on menu design and lots of information from top chefs on how they come up with dishes and menus.
