Product Description A rhyming story about a clever little mouse and a monster. When mouse goes for a walk in a dangerous forest, he invents tales of a fantastic creature called a Gruffalo to scare off his enemies. Imagine his surprise when he meets a real Gruffalo!
Amazon.co.uk Review "A gruffalo? What's a gruffalo?" "A gruffalo! Why, didn't you know? He has terrible tusks, and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws." And so begins the story of a quick-witted mouse as he encounters a host of predators who seem to think he might make a tasty treat. As he ventures deeper into the deep dark wood, stumbling across a hungry fox, a not-so-wise owl, and a slimy snake, spinning ever-extraordinary yarns about the scary, scaly gruffalo, he quickly realises that the hungry beast he has been talking of isn't imaginary after all. A witty, sly little story that wrings giggles from the belly of the reader, The Gruffalo is both stylish and hilarious, simple in its execution, as it plays skilfully on a child's fears and then shows that even the most threatening of monsters are not always as scary as they seem. A combination of read-along-rhyme by Julia Donaldson and illustrations by Alex Sheffler which perfectly capture the atmosphere of the story, The Gruffalo is an excellent picture book for 3-5-year-olds to read along with their parents, and is certain to become something of a classic. --Susan Harrison

childrens attention July 8, 2010 gerry excellent story line without being to complicated. Little feet and BIG feet listen throughout the story. It is also great to use puppets with. Await follow on.
One of the best children stories ever written July 1, 2010 Mariana Guimaraes e Matos Gil da Silva (Guildford, Surrey United Kingdom) Julia Donaldson excels in this book and creates a clever plot for a seemingly scary children's story. This couldn't be further from the traditional good vs. evil concept from early children's stories (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood). The little mouse's wit wins over the Gruffalo's scariness by using that same scariness in his favour. It starts placidly and ends placidly, the mouse having survived 3 predators and the Gruffalo himself, originally a creature that he made up to escape the predators. Axel Sheffler's illustrations are a perfect complement, with the Gruffalo looking scary and somewhat cute at the same time. A true gem.
Excellent puzzle book June 26, 2010 Nicola Hastings (Bournemouth) This book is one of the best I've seen for children of around 5 years, I've bought the others in the series as well. It has colouring pages, spot the difference, dot to dot and a scene with stickers - very popular with my daughters.
A gem of a story June 25, 2010 Ginger Bunny (UK) This is one story you dont mind reading to your kids! and they will love to hear it over and over again
Great June 14, 2010 Isabella (Italy) I bought this book for my 4 yr old son who loves the Gruffalo. The Gruffalo Colouring Book is very well layed out and the pictures are the same as in the story so it is easy to colour out - even for younger kids. Any child who adores the Gruffalo will enjoy this.
