5 out of 5 stars Ease of cooking.   July 15, 2010
Mrs. Patricia A. Halls (Lymington, England)
I firstly watched the film Julie and Julia which Meryl Streep. Intrigued by all the recipes she was preparing, I decided to purchase the book. I am extremely impressed with the way in which the recipes are laid out, so easy to follow. I have now prepared a few of the dishes which have come out lovely! I have also bought this book for my sister-in-law and will also buy it as a gift for friends and relatives as birthdays and christmas comes along. Something everyone would be pleased to receive!! Excellent recipe book.

5 out of 5 stars Getting back to the real basics of good cooking   June 8, 2010
L. G. Sharp (Ourimbah, Australia)
One of the best cookbooks I have bought. What I really like is the step by step guide which makes even the most daunting recipe seem to be within my experience! Not to be missed, even without the fancy photographs, which, in my opinion, are just that, fancy!

5 out of 5 stars If you read nothing else read this if you want to learn how to cook   June 5, 2010

I first purchased this as a student back in the 60's and have never really looked back.

An endless source of inspiration and technique but not written in quite the chatty style that modern cookbooks have adopted, the first volume is in my opinion better than the second - but that is probably just my personal preferences.

Unlike many cookbooks, all of these recipes work and have obviously been tested by the authors - don't you hate it when a recipe omits a vital step or ingredient or just doesn't work?

Without doubt the finest cookbook ever written.

Julia Child may not have been the best French Cook or have the best ability to write recipes but she committed her whole life to an art, dedicating all her energy to this art. She persisted and the attitude she did it with was full of enthusiasm and while cooking she was happy, it was what kept her happy. Not every chef can do this. Now, the greatest skill she had, renowned, no other chef can do; promise that her cookbook will work for anybody and allow them to cook French food to perfection. This book is detailed, thoughtful, well-planned and so much more.

Within it you will learn to cook the most divine dishes with an implosion and assortment of delightful flavors. I am proud to have this in my bookshelf inside my kitchen. This book should find it's way into everyones kitchen. A great thing about this book is that it has everything you want in one book! Other cookbooks have "My Desserts", "My Poultry Recipes". This is insane, Julia Child magically bestowed her knowledge into this book making perfect! (As she always says, say everything is Perfect!)

I highly recommend this book to anyone, wether you have ever entered a kitchen or not!

Made in 1961 and usable in 2010? I think that says it all...

Thank you Julia Child for sharing your genius with the world...

(WARNING: The book contains black & white only illustrations & Diagrams, I recommend getting a book to accompany this with images, or surf the net for people that are visual learners)

Bon Appetit!
